2014 Michael Martin Team Triathlon Challenge

Time to unpack the wetsuit, pump up your tyres and dust off your runners its finally Triathlon season! As always the Dubbo Triathlon Club will kick off the season with the annual Michael Martin Team Triathlon Challenge.

The challenge is an annual event commemorating the memory of Michael Martin, a well-known local who was heavily involved with the club who passed away after a battle with cancer.

Happening on Sunday October 12 at Ollie Robbins Oval (near the boat ramp), registrations will be from 2:45pm with the race commencing after a compulsory race brief at 3:30pm.

The entry fee is $30 per team and there will be a bbq afterwards with all proceeds going to the Cancer Council, the peak non-government cancer organisation in Australia. The Cancer Council aims to minimise the threat of cancer to Australians, through successful prevention, best treatment and support.

Teams are made up of up to three people each who complete a different leg of the race (swim, ride or run) to be in the running for the Michael Martin Team Challenge perpetual trophy, which is awarded on the day.

The winner determined not by the team with the fastest time but the team that knows their game best and finishes closest to their nominated time without the assistance of GPS devices (including smart phones). Any use of GPS devices will disqualify you from winning. Last years winners were 13 seconds off their time with 2nd place close behind with 15 seconds (both teams made up of all women…)

If you have been thinking about getting involved in Triathlon this is the perfect day for it. There are two distances offered on the day which cater for all levels:

  • Sprint: 500m swim | 18km ride | 4km run
  • Mini sprint: 500m swim | 9km ride | 2km run

If you are having trouble finding someone for a leg of the race don’t let that stop you from coming there will be members of the Dubbo Triathlon Club committee on hand to fill in on the day. If you want to confirm a member before the day then just get in touch with Club President Ian Crafter via email – info@dubbotriathlonclub.com.au

The focus of the day is on having fun and getting involved and raising money for a worthy cause close to everyone’s heart and we hope to see as many old and new faces there as possible.
