Report by Juniors Coordinator, Craig May
The Dubbo Triathlon Club held its final junior race day on Sunday with nearly 80 people competing across five different races in perfect conditions. The race was the last of a three race series where nearly 200 children have participated. Races were conducted within the Dubbo Aquatic Centre and Victoria park roads with no cars on the bike course.
The longer course race was conducted over a 50m swim, 1km ride, and 800m run. All up 17 boys and 24 girls raced over the course. There were some very quick times recorded with the skill level of a very high standard.
In the boys long course Lachlan Townsend (8.03 mins), Cooper Ferrari (8.32 mins), Leo Bassingthwaighte (8.38 mins), Rex Bassingthwaighte (8.57 mins) and Josh Townsend (9.14 mins) all raced exceptionally well. While Traevion Forrester , Cooper Smith, Noah Sutcliffe, Xavier Yeo and Nate Bayliss also put in solid performances.
In the girls long course field Haylee Fuller (7.49mins), Monique May (8.10 mins), Courtney May (8.28 mins), Kennedy Chapman (9.02 mins) and Brittany Marks (9.16 mins) all raced very quickly and were the leading performers. Bianca Fuller, Addison Chapman, Ruby Zell, Matilda Medlin, Payton Wray, Zakiah Jenkins and Samantha Barnes also raced strongly on the day.
In the short distance race there were 35 starters over the 12m swim-wade, 400 m ride and 400m run course. This meant that an individual girls and boys race was held at different starting times. As always the short distance was the most popular race on the day with great spectator support and fun had by all competitors and parents who helped.
Quickest boys on the day in the junior race were Alex Maas (5.04 mins), Hugo Furney (5.25 mins), Thomas Maas (5.34 mins), Patrick Edwards (5.42 mins) and Harry Cavanagh (6.13 mins). Other memorable efforts came from Spencer Chapman, Darcy Shanks, Lucas Large and Ziaire Forrester and Mateo Thompson.
In the girls short course field best performers were Isla Bassingthwaighte (6.26 mins), Abigal Strahorn (6.25 mins), Sienna Cavanagh (6.42 mins), Gemma Coote (6.58 mins) and Georgia Grant. Ava Sutcliffe, Audrey Cook, Lyla Cross and Lisi Darcy also performed strongly.
At the conclusion of the races a presentation was held and all racers received a certificate and were recognised for their effort. The major series prize of a $300 open order from Darrell Wheelers cycles was won by Angus Campbell.
